How do I use it?: Today’s dental products and treatment options COURSE DESCRIPTION: Today’s dental sessions require an exhaustive knowledge of products, instruments and equipment. Our profession has changed and grown to a new level, which offers us continuous challenges to recognize the new advances in technology and their use in dentistry. As professionals providing health services, we should be at the pulse of clinical devices and treatment, while being able to recommend product protocols for use in the office. The process of care (assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, implementation and evaluation) requires us to understand what these products are, how to use them, contemporary treatment options, how to implement the procedures and evaluate what is and what is not working for us as individuals and as clinicians. We will also discuss ergonomic options to protect ourselves as clinicians. This course will provide information for the clinicians to be able to: • Recognize improvements on products utilized by dental professionals • Distinguish which new-to-market products should be brought into your practice • Select materials and products for dental hygiene therapy, oral cancer screening, patient communication and instrumentation • Discuss diagnosis assistance with employers and rationale for changes in assessment forms and diagnostic tools • Communicate effectively to patients and assist...

A Message from the Alaska DHA President

Hello Alaska Dental Hygienists! Save the date! Our November 11th CE/business meeting, silent auction, and Election is just 3 months away! Our fabulous CE Committee will post information about the CE and registration closer to the event. In the mean time, I would like to encourage Alaska DHA members to consider positions up for election on November 11th! The positions up for election are: Delegate-term 2017-2019 and TWO voting Alaska DHA board member positions: Treasurer for term 2017-2019 and Vice President/President Elect for the remainder of term 2016-2018 which then transitions to President of Alaska DHA for term 2018-2020. Due to unforeseen life events, our current Vice President/President Elect, Carla Lindblom,  has resigned.  We wish her the best in all her endeavors! All interested candidates must email me their candidate information (cover letter, preferably with picture) no later than October 15th to be added to the ballot and to share with membership. Candidates who do not email me their candidate information by the October 15th deadline will need to nominate themselves or be nominated by a current ADHA member in good standing on November 11th when given the opportunity to do so during the Alaska DHA business meeting. Candidates nominated from the floor will be considered as a “write in” candidate.  A write in space will be provided on the ballot. A few minutes may be provided for candidates to share information about themselves to voting members in attendance during the Alaska DHA business meeting. I personally want to encourage folks to become members and get involved and participate in your professional local and national association!  We have a...
